Danielle
Danielle contracted COVID-19 while working within the ICU of a metro-Detroit hospital. As a young and athletic person preparing to run a half-marathon in 2020, doctors said that she had absolutely nothing to be concerned about because “young and healthy people will be fine.” Fast forward nine months after her positive test: she has a large basket full of daily medications, and she can only walk her dog down the road. The process of understanding the damage from the virus has been long and frustrating. Danielle’s doctors are uncertain about when she will return to her baseline, and she lives with a lot of unknowns. But Danielle has found solidarity in online support groups for other “long-haulers.” She has also received both doses of the vaccine and remains out on the front lines battling covid in the ICU while still healing.
