Sue & Ken

Sue and Ken both suspect they contracted Covid-19 through Sue’s work as an RN for an Oncology/Hematology unit. The positive tests were nerve-wracking, but so were the calls made to family and friends they had seen days before. As older individuals with some pre-existing health conditions, Sue and Ken took their diagnosis seriously and leaned on friends and healthcare professionals’ advice. While Sue experienced minor symptoms, Ken experienced all of the 11 symptoms associated with the virus. Shortly after purchasing an oximeter to monitor Ken, his oxygen level dropped to 88, and he had to make a trip to the ER. Luckily, the moment of panic didn’t last long; the scans cleared him of hospitalization, and Ken could continue his recovery at home. Even though Ken experienced worse symptoms, he feels he has not noticed any residual after-effects, but it’s a different story for Sue. Sue has continued to experience daily asthma flare-ups - something managed before covid-19. She feels the virus may have done more to the lungs with those mild symptoms than she thought. Both Sue and Ken say they are grateful for the love and support from each other and their friends. With the first doses of the vaccine down, they are hopeful and focused on educating their community on the realities of Covid-19.
